password sync?

Hi All,
I'm trying to get this Samba server up and running on an AIX 4.3.3.3
machine.  It took some time, but I got
it added into the domain.  I did that by doing the following 

smbpasswd -j (domain) -r (PDC emulator)

This worked fine but I still cannot authenticate anyone through the password
server.  Do I need to sync the password file?
Also, what are all these buffer errors in my log?  Thanks to anyone that can
help
