W2K to Samba PDC

I have added to machine to the /etc/passwd and I have added root and the
machine to the smbpasswd files and appear to be correct.  When I go to
the W2K machine and change it from workgroup to domain and login with
root I get the error: 'The trust relationship between this workstation
and the primary domain failed.

In the logs I get the following:
