samba + win xp pro?

Do you need the reg patch because of domain logons?
If you don't have domain logon enabled, is this still an issue?

Hi,

You need to make sure you have applied the winXP reg patch. This can be
found in the samba documents directory. Also make sure you have
encrypted passwords.

My problem: Win XP Pro refuses to make a domain-logon to my RedHat 7.2 
linux-server... It workes w/ Win ME and earlier versions, though...?
The RedHat machine runs samba-2.2.1a-4

Can anyone help me?
