appliance or samba 3??

i have a nt PDC and i need to take the users and groups from my samba. i
want to do a samba apliance that when the users try to map the "personal"
share the samba take the users from the NT PDC.
in the smb.conf
i put:

[personal]
        comment = Home directory for each user
        path = /home/%U
        writeable = Yes
        directory mask = 0700
and need to set up winbindd..
i see that a appliance_head branch from the cvs are apparently outdated.
and i see that samba3 cover my needs..
what i need to use samba3 or apliance_head??
