Thanks Fred,
I tried your change and then tried changing any other relevant parameters
that were different from yours in smb.conf. Unfortunately the problem
persists. There is no way that the client can see the server.

change
	hosts allow = 192.168.1.0/24 127.0.0.1
to
	hosts allow = 192.168.1/24 127.0.0.1

?????????????
just a guess after several minutes of lookin for anything.
I have a samba pdc working with this conf file and win98, winME and linux
pc's on the domain.
let me know if this helps

good luck
Fred

Hi All,
I am currently running a Server (called LinuxPDC) with Red Hat Linux 7.1 and
Samba 2.2. I have a Windows 98 second edition client (called Gordon1). There
are currently only three hosts connected via an Ethernet hub.

Although PING works on both the Server IP address and Server host name I can
not get the client to communicate in any other way with the server, (eg net
view, browse etc.) I have followed all of the fault trees and trouble
shooting sheets that I can find and they all seem to indicate that
everything is OK. (I have used ping from both machines, used Testparm,
logged on as the user and password with SMBclient, used smblookup with
broadcast etc.)
Any message sent from the client to the server gets a "Destination
Unreachable" response, almost as if the server is on another sub-net with no
routing.
I have attached both my smb.conf file and a file captured using Ethereal
(this was run on the third host, a NoteBook called Gordon_NB).
I would really appreciate any help as I have been struggling for a month
with this problem.

Many Thanks.
