Not creating users dir with winbind

Ive been trying to get winbind to work with our PDC (using samba-2.2.2-8)

It logs in the user from the NT domain correctly, but it will not create 
users home dir.

Ive now found that it cannot find or create the users home directory.

There are no indications in /var/log/messages that it cannot create it, but 
when issue flashes up very quickly (after login) it says:

No directory /home/MMEBS/admin !
logging in with home ="/"

then logs me straight back out..


Heres the winbind section of my smb.conf:

    winbind cache time = 10
    template shell = /bin/bash
    #template shell = /bin/false
    template homedir = /home/%D/%U
    winbind uid = 10000-20000
    winbind gid = 10000-20000
