[Samba] Windows Explorer

Hi,

i have the following problem. Samba Version 2.2.3a (compiled with gcc 2.95.2 on a suse 6.4 distro, kernel 2.2.14) configured as PDC. Clients: W2K SP2
PDC works, everything elso too, except when a user wants to open files (excel97) from its home share its tells me "could not read file".
when i copy that file to the local harddisk it works perfectly. but the weird thing is that some files work some dont. folder and file creation/deletion works.
anybody a clue what that could be?
