yes it can (sort of), you have to run lisa and/or reslisa which is a
little daemon that scans the net for not only smb shares but also http
and ftp ressources. But as lisa's a PITA and I have all CIFS shares
available as NFS via automounter, I didn't concern myself too much with
it.. Whoever interested in lisad should hunt it down somewhere on
www.kde.org (it belongs into kde2).

as it's supposed to happen when lisad is not running.
