[Samba] sambapasswords and umlauts

Hi,

I can't create passwords with umlauts like ä, ö or ü.
We use RH Linux 7.2+, kernel 2.4.9 and samba 2.2.2. Clients: Windows 4 
NT SP6a and 2000 SP2 + latest patches

Are there any country / fontset / ... rules or options??
