[Samba] HELP

I - firstly I am a newbie to Linux but very familiar with MS networking and
OK with Netware V4 & 5

I have tarball for samba 2.2.3a and have extracted it. (To
/home/peter/samba-2.2.3a)
I have run     ./configure , make & make install but my version of SAMBA has
not updated (according to SWAT)
All appears to have gone OK.

I suspect I need to use a switch with ./configure but not sure which one(s).
Tried  --with-package=MANDRAKE to no avail

Can u someone point me in the right please. My Linux Package is MANDRAKE
