[Samba] samba with OS X and win 98: 'umlaut'

Hi

I try to connect a win 98 machine to my samba server running on OS X. 
Everything works fine except for 'umlaut'.
I'm running samba version 2.2.2.
Settings:

  client code page = 437
coding system = utf8-mac

Any help is welcome
