[Samba] Winbind Login

I need help on getting NT to login to a share on Samba 2.2.3a on RH 7.2 with
2.4.17 kernel
Startup commands from /etc/rd.d/init.d/smb
daemon smbd -D -d 3
daemon nmbd -D -d 3
winbindd -d 100

1) I get good returns from wbinfo -u -t -g
2) shares are shown in browser
3) Probelm: to map the drive a dialog box comes up because
     1. incorrect password or user name
     I can log into the NT DOM with that domains id/password. This works
4) in the workstation.log file if get
     Invalid username/password for id [dom:id]
     error string = No such file or directory
     error packet at smb/reply.c(167) cmd=117 (SMBtconX)
NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD
Where do I go from here?
