[Samba] samba 2.2.2 with windows2000

Hello,

I like work with samba in environment Windows 2000.

1 - The samba option (encrypt passwords = yes) "required" the file 
/usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd  ???

or 

2 - I can use samba without need file smbpasswd ???
