[Samba] choose printing system between lpd and CUPS

I use lprng, which is what I think you mean by lpd, and have no cups
experience.
My best advice is:
They all work.
Learn about the system you are using, and troubleshooting will be much
easier.
Seek simplicity.
Avoid GUI configuration solutions.
Yes, the file is transferred to the server in any format you wish,
depending on the choice you make for a printer driver back on windows,
and, the server can or cannot, depending on what you specify on the
server, modify the job further.
