Which dependency?

Why don't you download
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.3/en/os/SRPMS/samba-2.2.7-1.7.3.src.rpm
and rebuild it on your system?
Chances are that the 7.3 binary rpm's would work on rh72 too directly.

libcups is part of cups-libs rpm which you can install without causing any
problem (install just cups-libs and not cups rpm)

Subject: [Samba] Samba Workstation domain membering

Hi!

=09I have a samba 2.2.3a-12 on a Linux Debian box (lets call it pdcMachin=
e) with=20
a 2.4.16 kernel acting as a PDC of some domain (lets call it myDomain).
I have a samba 2.999+3.0.alpha20-4 workstation (debian,kernel 2.4.19) (le=
ts=20
call it wstMachine) and i'm trying to join wstMachine to myDomain.
I added:
=09workgroup =3D myDomain
=09password server =3D *
=09security =3D domain
=09encrypt passwords =3D true

=2E.. to my smb.conf, the I added wstMachine$ account in pdcMachine:
=09adduser --disabled-password --disabled-login --force-badname --home /d=
ev/null=20
wstMachine$
=09smbpasswd -a -m wstMachine

=2E.. in order to add the wstMachine to the domain i did (in wstMachine):
=09smbpasswd -j myDomain -r pdcMachine -U root # (root is a valid user in=
=20
pdcMachine)
=2E.. the it told me to use "net rpc join".
so i did:
=09net rpc join -S pdcMachine
after typing the asked password (pdcMachine smb root password ... i thoug=
ht)=20
it returned:

"Joined domain myDomain."

=2E. but when i try:
smbclient //wstMachine/someshare  -U validDomainAccount
it tells me :

Same problem here. 2.2.5 works, 2.2.6, 2.2.7 and above (even tried
3.0.alpha20) does not. The underlying filesystem do store files >2GB and
with Samba 2.2.5 they do. I even tried gcc 2.95.3 and gcc 3.2. Is there
any fix available?

Thanks,

It sounds like you want to include ACL Support, which I don't believe is the
default in most samba packages.
As ACL support is still an experimental kernel feature, you will need to
patch your kernel, and install Extended Attribute, ACL support and a
modified e2fsprogs so that ls, chmod, etc. work properly.
These, along with very good installation instructions, can be found at
http://www.acl.bestbits.at .
We set it up on a Debian machine with minimal headaches, the RPM packages
should make it a no-brainer on Redhat.
Then you will need to build a new samba rpm --with-acl-support to enable the
ability for granular permissions.

Good luck!

Subject: [Samba] Need to know the code error returned by smbmount utility

I used the smbmount command in a system call in a C program, i.e.
{
    sprintf(req, "smbmount //NTMAX/SAMBA /usr/mf
-o
ip=192.168.2.17,username=Administrator,password=super");

   ret=system(req);
   printf("after mount: ret=%d err=%d\n",ret,errno);
}

I tried this program in different situations, when a firewall was
active,
when the host was disconnected and when the remote directory was not
sharable. Below is what I got.

2096: Connection to Davide2000 failed
SMB connection failed
after mount: ret=256 err=0

error connecting to 192.168.2.17:139 (No route to host)
2124: Connection to NTMAX failed
SMB connection failed
after mount: ret=256 err=0

2152: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnosuchshare (You specified an
invalid
share name)
SMB connection failed
after mount: ret=256 err=0

It seems to me that I would have to parse the returned string to figure
out the error which seems to be the number before the colon.Is there any
other way?

Where can i find the list of code errors could be returned by smbmount
or other samba utilities?

TIA.

Sorry to be so dramatic on the subject line but things are falling apart

Yesterday we upgraded Samba to version 2.999+3.0.alpha20-4 and this
morning NO-ONE was able to log in to the Samba PDC. I upgraded from
20-3. Nothing has changed in the smb.conf file.

We are using the unstable version of Samba because this is the only
version of SAMBA that works with our SNAP server. (Damn SNAP!. We
should have built our own fileserver!!! ;( )

I have a debug 100 log ready for anyone who can help me.

Would really APPRECIATE ANY HELP anyone out there can give me!

Thanks!

We had a big discussion of this topic last week on the samba-technical
mailing list. It appears that at this point in time, what you want to
do is not supported by Samba itself. For that matter, Windows NT/2000
Server does not have a provision for this. You can setup a list of
workstations that a user is allowed to login from on a Windows NT/2000
Server - but you cannot restrict concurrent logons from those
workstations. Netware is the only PC-based NOS that I know of that has
a provision for doing that.

Anyway, the consensus was that this is one of several features that
should be focused on after the impending Samba 3.0 release is complete.

Okay.

I have a samba connection to a box on my LAN (mount -t smbfs -o
username=someuser,password=somepass
//computername/share /mountpoint/ (I'm using Red Hat Linux 7.2)). My problem
is that I'm trying to
transfer files that go OVER 2GB in size. I can't get my FTP server up and
running (which isn't that
important since I'm formatting and doing an upgrade) so that's not an
option. Is there anyway I can
disable the file transfer size limit?

After meditating on this situation I don't believe it's a keyboard issue,
it's a PBKAC issue.
