Do you have tcpdump traces from both sides of this connection
(ie. a trace on both the client hub and the server hub) ?

If you do and you see these retransmits on both sides then it's
time to start thinking about a kernel tcp bug, if not then all
you have is evidence that packets are being lost somewhere in
your network.
