And how does that help??? You do know that samba passwords are different
to unix passwords, due to the fact that the windows and unix password
hashes are incompatible?

You MUST add an smbpasswd for root to be able to join machines to the
domain (unless you are using an LDAP backend for samba).


Btw, there is a whole section on this in the samba-howto-collection,
have you read through that?
