[Samba] HELP: Procedure number is out of range

Greetings,
I'm here as my last resort, spent all day researching
and still without an answer, though I saw many
references to the same problem. I have a Solaris 8 U2
running Samba 2.2.5 compiled with one flag:
--with-acl-support
I've setup a machine account in /etc/passwd and
/opt/sfw/private/smbpasswd according to the FAQ. Also
tried the automagic way as well in the smb.conf. I
also have a valid user account for samba as well.
Logging is on and set to 10. I will include an output
of testparm at the end of this message with the Global
settings.
The problem is when I try to join the domain from the
XP PRO laptop, I get "procedure number is out of
range" and I am stuck there. I use the root account as
the account with "permission" to join the domain, but
no joy.
The XP PRO laptop has had all the recent M$ patches
applied but I have not done anything else to the
system with respect to modifying any files for use
with samba, registry hacks or the such.
I am a little stumped about someones post about the
domain having odd or even character numbers, can
someone clarify this?
I am able to login successfully using a Windows 98SE
machine configured for domain logins.
Any direction at this point will be gracefully
appreciated....Thanks for your time.
