[Samba] winbindd problem

Using samba 2.2.5 (suse 8.0 pro update, XFS filesystem.) had everything
configured and was able to modify ACL's on local share using the NT gui.
Prior version created a /etc/samba/MACHINE.SID file but after the update
to 2.2.5 this file no longer is being created. It did not exist this
morning when I was able to modify ACL's.
This is a new venture for me and I am trying to get the boss to use an
alternative to M$. After a restart of winbind and smb I am no longer
able to modify any ACL's with the NT gui as before and am getting many
errors like:

[2002/08/15 15:47:34, 1]
nsswitch/winbindd_util.c:winbindd_lookup_name_by_sid(268)
  Can't find domain from sid

It appears the the PDC is refusing a connection to port 445 as follows

[2002/08/15 15:42:54, 2] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_out(874)
error connecting to 10.0.1.24:445 (Connection refused)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
