run ps -ae | grep smbd
then
/proc/_processid_/exe -V
Example session:
itweb01p:~ # /proc/27733/exe -V
Version 2.2.5
itweb01p:~ # ps -ae | grep smbd
27733 ? 00:00:01 smbd
27747 ? 00:00:05 smbd
itweb01p:~ # /proc/27733/exe -V
Version 2.2.5
When you compile samba from source it defaults to /usr/local/bin you can
re-configure it using --prefix or change the /etc/rc.d/smb file to point to
the new binaries.
