The pam directives are used by Samba itself. So yes, it should also work
for your setup. In generally this should work whenever the UNIX user/group
info comes from another source then the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files.

So does it work after you added the line ? If not then how did you install
Samba? I used the makerpms.sh script to build a rpm and I installed that.
