Samba 2.2.1a

I just loaded Samba 2.2.1a (previously running 2.0.7) and am having major
problems. The load on my server keeps climbing (got as high as *95* this
morning. Relevant info following:

Manufacturer is Sun (Sun Microsystems)
System Model is Enterprise 250 Model 2400
Main Memory is 2.0 GB
Virtual Memory is 4.3 GB
OS Version is 5.7

This machine is the file and print server for our campus desktop machines;
the PCs use Samba; the Macs use Xinet. Xinet has remained stable.

Samba 2.2.1a
10:48am up 1 day(s), 19:22, 58 users, load average: 6.83, 6.40, 5.86
	(251 smbd processes running)

11:03am up 1 day(s), 19:37, 59 users, load average: 22.56, 30.63, 19.75
	(323 smbd processes running)

3:07pm up 1 day(s), 23:41, 71 users, load average: 38.70, 20.83, 11.76
        (647 smbd processes running)

Samba 2.0.7:
4:28pm up 2 day(s), 1:02, 63 users, load average: 1.63, 1.75, 1.84
        (398 smbd processes running)

The number of smbd processes seems to go through the roof, and the load on
the machine does the same. I know Solaris 7 has some memory leaks, but
things on the machine will change from running normally to totally out of
control within a 15-minute time frame.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. If you need additional info from our
config file or logs, please let me know. There's a lynch mob after me...
