Problems with Win 2000

I'm having a little bit of trouble adding my win 200 machine to the
domain.
I'm getting the message

"The specified user does not exist"

I'm logging in with root and made a addition in the smbpasswd file for
root.
When logging in at the domain with a win98 2e edition machine the uid
and given password work's
Does anyone knows how to solve this problem.
