Unusually large log file

Your full partition could be the cause of your problem. If it works again 
after you deleted the log, you know it is so. You can also use logrotate to 
control the size of logs. See man logrotate.

You can set the max size of the log files in smb.conf with the parameter

max log size = <size in kB>
