samba and subnets and switches (Oh my!)

(Enough of the wizard of oz stuff)

I have a samba server that I am responcible for. It is on a different
subnet that a windows nt NT PCD/BDC. Every 3 minuites, the samba server
sends a broadcast to the pdc/bdc

It is used as the localmaster (this was decided because machines on the
same subnet would not be visible in network neighborhood)

I have an idea that it is exchange of browse data. However, I am not sure
(well not sure enough to explain it in a way to get the person who is
complaining off my back)

Any help or ideas apprecitated.
