Connection to server failed..

When running: smbclient \\server\tmp ,
I get the message:
"added interface ip=my.ip.address bcast=another.ip.address 
nmask=255.255.255.248
Connection to server failed"
Not able to locate this error in docs or o'reilly samba book, can anyone help?
