Compiling samba under RH 7

Hi all;

I downloaded the source for samba and i'm trying to compile under RH 7.0
(I'm new to this)

When i type the ". configure" command i get some "command not found"
errors and a "syntax error near unexpected token 'do on line 126"

what am I missing?
