File permissions

Hi everyone

I'm trying to get my head around the way Samba sets file permissions. I'm
running Samba 2.2.2 on RH7.1 and have a test setup with a few NT4
workstations.

The relevant bit of smb.conf looks like this:

[common]
  path = /shared/common
  read only = No
  create mask = 0777
  directory mask = 0777
  map archive = No

(defaults for force create mode and security mask)

Creating a file in the directory from an NT machine results in a file with
permissions:

-rw-rw-rw-

Why aren't the x bits set?

Thanks in advance.
