Configuration problems

Samba team,

    I am a "first journey sailor" in Samba and i am having some problems with
it. When i run "smbd" and "nmbd" in daemon mode, it don´t appear in list of ps
command .... I am just configured /etc/services file and i opt for don´t use
"inetd" method.
    My machine is Intel platform and my OS is a NCR ... You need more
information to help me ?? Thanks a lot,
