Certainly could be...
The problem is that the default guest account for samba is "nobody", which
has a negative uid and gid
on HP-UX, and a negative uid/gid will core smbd.
To fix this, create a useraccount called 'smbuser' in a group with a
non-negative gid, and add the 
following line to the global section of your smb.conf file:

guest account = smbuser

1)i have samba 2.2.2 running on HPUX11.0 64 bits
and i have the folowing message in my user log:

2) when i try to open a word file, the file is corrupted

are the 2 problems linked
?
