Samba and RedHat 7.2

Well, I thought I was an "experience" samba user, but I've ran into
something I've never seen before:
All SAMBA protocols (smbd and nmbd) work fine on the "localhost", but do not
work from a remote system (NT or Linux). This includes "telnet server 139".
Basically, the telnet test works as one would expect from the localhost, but
not from any remote system. (Do realize that telnet, ftp and other non-SAMBA
protocols work perfectly to/from this server.)
Any ideas?
thanks
