copy/paste, move could be off-topic question

HI,
I have an utlra10-sol2.8 box that has the latest samba.
In windows98, i drag,copy/paste the image file from the mapped
drive to the physical drive and then rename it. I see it sometimes
the move or copy/paste takes place so quickley without the progress bar that 
when i look at the images at the physical drive after
they are renamed, they look the same.  Any clues..??
