Can't compile under RH 7.2

I just subscribed to the lists, and am coincedentally doing a new 
installation under Red Hat 7.2.  During the install I chose the option 
of installing the SMB server, but I decided to download the source and 
complie it for my system after reding "Learning to Samba" on linux.com. 
 I'm currently waiting on the machine to compile after running "make 
install."  I was wondering if what I was doing is similar to the problem 
Gregor is experiencing...I missed out on the initial posts.
