  Simon.
The box has 2 ip nic cards and 2 different Ip addresses
  151.109.168.180 and 151.109.168.75

  when I ping I get 151.109.168.180
  when I do a nmblookup I get 151.109.168.75

how can I assign samba to use the 151.109.168.180 which is the one that DNS has
  registered

Sorry taking so long to reply!

It does sound like it's a netbios name resolution problem as I said in my last message. If you do a ping, that uses DNS to resolve the name, so that's fine. A browse request however does not use DNS, but queries the master browser, or WINS server. If you don't have a WINS server, then this fails. A *nix client will probably fall back to DNS if Netbios resolution fails, but Windows clients won't.
