INETD Question.

Hi Todd,
I have the same setup, and it works fine for me...
A couple of things:
1. /op/samba/lib/smb.conf is not the normal path
to the smb.conf file for the hp installation of samba; normally it is
in /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf - so it the smb.conf file really where you are
telling smb.conf it is?
2. is it possible that something got screwed up when you edited inetd.conf,
and 
the smbd line is actually multiple lines? so smbd is not recognizing where
the 
smb.conf file is?
3. did you run inetd -c  after adding the lines in the inetd.conf to force
inetd
to re-read it's configuration?
4. in /var/opt/samba, do you get ANY debug logs, that might tell us
something...
5. in your /var/adm/inetd.sec, if you have a line like

netbios_ns allow myhostname
netbios_ssn allow myhostname

where myhostname is your Samba server name, then something like
smbclient -L myhostname

would work,
but a connection from anyone else would fail....
have you allowed both the unix server AND all the clients that will be
attaching in the inetd.sec file?

I'm currently running version 2.0.7 of samba(CIFS9000).  I have HPUX 11.x
installed on the samba server.  When I try to run this from inetd it doesn't
work.  I can run a startup script that runs the smbd as a daemon and it
works
fine.  But if I try to run it from inetd it won't start.  The previous
version
of Samba 1.9.18p10 that I had on this server worked fine.  Is this a bug in
2.0.7 or am I doing something wrong?

here is my entry in /etc/inetd.conf

swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /opt/samba/bin/swat swat
netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /opt/samba/bin/smbd -s
/opt/samba/lib/smb.con

f  smbd
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /opt/samba/bin/nmbd nmbd

I have my IP allowed in inetd.sec to start the service netbios-ssn and
netbios-ns.

Any Ideas of suggestions why this doesn't work would be greatly apreciated.
