It is a registry setting:
Use regedit.exe to change the following key:
Windows 95/98/ME:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ VxD \ VNETSUP \
EnablePlainTextPassword= 0 or 1 (DWORD)
You have to manually add this key to change from the default.
The default of 95 is EnablePlainTextPassword=1 which means plain
The default of 98/ME is EmablePlainTextPassword=0 which means encrypted
Windows 2000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \
lanmanworkstation \ parameters \ EnablePlainTextPassword = 0 or 1 (DWORD)
this key should allready exist... you have to change it to
EnablePlainTextPassword=0 to change it to plain text passwords
otherwise windows 2000 defaults to Encrypted
