can't even start smbd

It must be launched as root in order to function.

There should be a sample rc script in the directory you untarred.

I compile and install samba 2.0.7 on Solaris 2.7, but I just can't start the
smbd.

$ smbd -D -p 3308
smbd: Version 2.0.7 : Must have effective user id of zero to run.
