Win9X User listing status

What stage is Samba at with supporting user lists for the Win9X
'user-level access control' on its shares?  I was under the impression
that Samba 2.2 would give this support, but I can't get it to work.  

(I am using a CVS snapshot taken very shortly before alpha2 was
released.)

I note that current CVS Samba-TNG can do this, how easy would it be to
bring the functionatily across?
