You can't set the refresh time, it's supposed to be very short/notice
changes, but in some kernel versions this does not work.

Kernel version? Try 2.2.18.

Also this is different depending on the type of server you are accessing
(the bug I'm thinking of is vs NT4/5 but not win9x, iirc).
