Unable to read a file until 3 or 4 attempts

I' m a running samba on a HP-UX 10.20 server, and I also have an application
running on a lot of PC's. When this application starts up, tries tu read
some files on the server.

Sometimes, the application is unable to read the files until the 3rd or 4th
attempt ! This implies to re-start the application, etc...

Somebody knows why ???
