long filenames

Hi

Long filenames was introduced with the LM1.2X002 (LANMAN2) dialect, as the
CIFS/1.0 document says. And I read somewhere (smb.conf configuration) that
the samba LANMAN1 dialect supports long filenames, how can that be ????
