problems transferring files

i am running samba 2.0.7 on solaris 2.7 with vxfs v3.3.3. all read and
browse operations seem to work correctly, however all write operations
fail stating that i have insufficient permissions even on world
writable directories and directories that are owned and writable by
me. initially i attributed this problem to the usage of vrts quotas,
however the same behavior seems to occur on both ufs and vxfs
filesystems, on the same host, without quotas. i have run, and passed,
all tests in the diagnosis file.
any help would be appreciated.
