It seems your NETBIOS name resolution is somewhat hosed: FQN works (will 
go to DNS) and IP address works (no name resolution needed).

Are you sure nmbd is running?

Do you use a WINS server from the clients? You will then have to 
configure "wins server = IP address" in smb.conf.

Did you run through the steps in DIAGNOSIS.txt?

BTW: 2.0.5 is known the have some bugs on Solaris. You should better 
upgrade to 2.0.7.
