We just had this here. The outcome was:
Samba _never_ answers with that (normally it is "Called name not
present"). So something else is answering.
Just to make sure your name resolution works properly: Run smbclient
with "-d 4" and check if it goes to the correct IP address. If it does
so, you have something else answering.
Stop smbd, try again. If you still get _any_ answer, you might have Lan
Manager installed. This won't work together with Samba on the same
machine.
