Thomas, I know you weren't asking for any help, and I know this has nothing 
to do with the problem you were helping Martin with, but I noticed you have 
the SSL error with smbclient. I'm assuming you're running RedHat 7. I fixed 
that problem simply by pointing SSL to the correct CA certificate 
directory. I did it a while ago, and I've since gone back to RH6.2, so I 
can't recall exactly where I went to change it, but I'm sure you'll figure 
it out :) I hope I've been more of a help than a nuisance!
