Hello Ben Choong,
Try the user.map functionality - this maps pc usernames to unix usernames.
Read about it in the man page on smb.conf, or there is a good discussion in
the online O'Reilly book "Using Samba" at url:
http://us2.samba.org/samba/oreilly/using_samba/

page 162 covers your situation pretty nicely.
Hope this helps,
Don

Subject: Win98 ids -> Unix ids

Hi All,

Please can somebody help me with the following problem;

		My Win98 PCs and Samba Server are located on two different
domains. The Samba server has been set up as the PDC.
		For those user ids (Win98) with <= 8 characters, I have no
problem mapping to the Samba's shared directory.
		But, how can I deal with those ids that are longer than 8
characters (max Unix user id is 8 characters)?
		Any suggestions?

-Ben
