can't create STATUS..LCK file

Hi

I am running samba 2.0.5 on a Sun Sparc machine.

I had Samba running until recently when the root and other passwords were
changed.

Now it doesn't work. Using SWAT, I get the the following error:

	Couldn't  to open status lock file
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/STATUS..LCK

I can create the file manually using 
	
	# touch STATUS..LCK

This gets rid of the error, but it still doesn't work

I raised the debug level for smbd to 3 using the following command:

	# smbd -D -d 3
