Are you trying to map to a particular share, or just trying to browse the
server to view what shares are there?
If you are trying to map to a particular share, you may need to set
security = share, because Windows won't even know such a share exists until
authenticated with the server when using security = user.
Windows is a bugger like that.
Nik.
PS. for my reference, smb.conf without comments is:
[global]
workgroup = PVCS_SAMBA
auto services = public
security = user
os level = 34
local master = yes
preferred master = yes
domain master = yes
domain logons = yes
[public]
comment = "Public File Share"
path = /samba_share
writable = yes
create mode = 0777
guest ok = yes
[netlogon]
comment = Domain Logon Services
path = /samba_share/netlogon
public = no
writable = no
browseable = no
