joining the domain

Dear samba users,

As far as tests have shown, using samba 2.2.1a on a RH based system (7.1),
we still seem to need the root password to join the domain.  Is this
because of a misconfiguration on our side or is this just the way it is?
Are there any plans to change this in the (near) future? i.e. allow any
user to join the domain or admin users to join the domain or ...
