Locking problems in 2.2.2

In roughly the same network setup as the original poster
(W2K SP2 clients, Samba 2.2.2 server on SuSE 7.1), 
I regularly get (sorry for line breaks):

  oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds.
  oplock_break failed for file

These errors occur both with and without oplock break wait time = 15 in
smb.conf.

Is it useful to try the SAMBA_2_2 CVS tree with these conditions?
